WhatsApp Interviews
Run automated, AI-led interviews through WhatsApp — reaching participants where they already are.
How It Works
WhatsApp interviews are text-based, asynchronous conversations conducted through WhatsApp Business API. The AI sends questions as chat messages and processes participant responses in real time. Participants can respond at their own pace — they don't need to complete the interview in one sitting.
Interview Flow
Consent
Participants receive a consent message explaining the interview. They reply to confirm their participation before questions begin.
Questions
The AI sends questions one at a time. For structured questions (single-select, multi-select), participants reply with their choice. For open-ended questions, they type freely.
Follow-ups
The AI generates follow-up probes based on responses, just like in voice interviews. The depth is controlled by your question settings.
Stimulus delivery
When questions have attached stimulus, images are sent as media messages. Website and YouTube links are sent as clickable URLs.
Completion
A thank-you message is sent when the interview is complete. The session is marked as finished in your dashboard.
Probing Toggle
WhatsApp studies have a probing toggle that controls whether the AI follows up on participant responses. When enabled, the AI will ask clarifying questions when answers are vague or surface-level — just like in voice interviews. When disabled, the AI moves straight to the next question after each response.
This is useful when you want a faster, more survey-like experience without conversational follow-ups.
Automated Reminders
If a participant stops responding mid-interview, the system can send automated reminders to encourage them to continue. Reminders are gentle and respect the participant's choice not to continue — they won't be spammed.
Credits
WhatsApp interviews use question credits, not voice minutes. One credit is consumed for each question sent to a participant, including follow-up probes. This means:
- A 10-question interview with no follow-ups uses 10 credits
- The same interview with light follow-ups might use 15-20 credits
- Deep follow-ups on every question could use 25-30 credits
- Abandoned interviews only consume credits for questions already sent
